Sustainability and the environment have long played an important role here on the Alm. Not just in terms of architecture, but overall, as it involves ensuring sustainable energy supplies as well as focussing on regionality.
At the Grünegghof, we’ve developed a self-sufficient supply of energy over the years.
The property is supplied with water, heat and electricity entirely from our own resources.

In 1996, our hydroelectric plant was built directly above our alpine pasture with maximum respect for nature. Since then it has been supplying the Grünegg Alm with 100% CO2-free, clean green electricity.
It takes many decades for the water to filter through the mountain rock. Our farm has been supplied entirely with our own excellent drinking quality water since time immemorial.
In 2018, our spring was captured using a new stainless steel tank. Enriched with many minerals and crystal clear, the mountain water bubbles up from the hotel's own spring.
Heat has been generated using wood for as long as the Grünegg Hof has been in existence (1506).
In response to the healthy growth of our business, we built a new biomass wood chip heating plant in 2021. All the wood comes from our own forest. It is sustainable and an environmentally friendly cycle.
In addition to a perfect combination of heat recovery systems from the cold storage facility and the distillery, we generate heat using a biomass heating plant on our alpine pasture.
The new façade of the biomass heating plant is used sustainably, and a new photovoltaic system with associated battery storage was built in 2021 for additional electricity generation during peak consumption periods.
